Daniel Sims is the Program Consultant for the Healthy Communities Program, providing support to 38 local health departments in eastern and southcentral North Carolina. With over nine years of experience in public health—seven and a half of which were spent at Wake County Health and Human Services—Daniel has focused on substance use prevention and treatment initiatives, as well as food security efforts. Most recently, he spent a year and a half at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, concentrating on substance use prevention and food security awareness within the Carolina community. Daniel earned his B.S. in Public Health Education from East Carolina University and is dedicated to addressing health disparities and the stigma surrounding them, particularly in relation to food insecurity and access to affordable, nutritious foods. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening, playing golf, and taking walks with his wife and newborn son.
